Sprinkle Explosion. Do we need to say more?

Okay don't let the beauty of this cake intimidate you!! You can make it and we will walk you through these easy steps with pictures. This cake is truly the best for any occasion and you can be fun with the colors, candy and sprinkles you use! We made this for the first time for our Grandmother's birthday over the summer and it was an instant hit. Because of COVID-19 there were not many people to witness the explosion, but we were sure to FaceTime with our family and take videos when we cut in the cake.

Recipes:

CAKE:

2 1/2 cups of All-Purpose Flour

2 teaspoons of Baking Powder

1/4 Cup Cornstarch

1 1/2 Cups of White Sugar

2 Sticks or 1 Cup of Salted Butter

3/4 cup milk of choice

1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons of Vanilla Extract

4 Egg Whites

1/4 cup of Vegetable or Canola Oil

FROSTING:

*Frosting Recipe, from Sally's Baking addiction! (Press on name for link to recipe)

*For best results use Hershey's special Dark Cocoa Powder

Cake Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350

  2. Sift the cornstarch, flour and baking powder into a bowl

  3. Beat the butter and sugar in an electric mixer

  4. Add the egg whites one by on into the mixer

  5. Add the vanilla to the egg mixture

  6. Add the milk and flour to the egg mixture alternating which you add

  7. Make sure the two mixtures are completely combined

  8. Split the batter into cake pans and bake for 20-25 minutes

Process: (Some pictures below to help guide you)

  1. Make the cake as stated in the directions from the link above and let it cool. YOU NEED TO LET IT FULLY COOL!!!

  2. While the cakes are cooling make the frosting as explained in the link above.

  3. Cut a small circle in the center of the MIDDLE layers of the cake. (You can only do this for the middle layers or it won't work!)

  4. Assemble the cake with a bottom layer (with NO hole) and then the middle layers (with a hole), and lastly the top layer (with NO hole), frost between each layer as you stack them leaving the center open.

  5. Fill your cake up! Fill up with the sprinkles and candy of choice! (We recommend, sprinkles and MnMs)

  6. Frost the rest of the cake as you would, if you would like you can put sprinkles around the outside

  7. Cut in for the explosion and ENJOY! 😊
